Friends of Folk Art

The highly anticipated Folk Art Flea is an annual fundraiser where gently used folk art objects from around the world, donated by local residents and collectors, are sold to benefit the Museum. The Flea is one of Santa Fe’s most popular and fun events and a chance to begin or grow an art collection at bargain prices. The Flea has raised more than $750,000 to benefit the Museum of International Folk Art’s education and exhibition programs. Admission is free. Early bird entry is offered to current members of FOFA.

To donate your gently used folk art treasures to the FOFA Folk Art Flea, contact: friendsoffolkart@gmail.com or 505.476.1201. Donations are accepted year-round, as well as on designated Flea donation days and directly benefit the Museum. They are also tax deductible.

FOFA hosts a tour of private Santa Fe homes with exceptional folk art collections. Homeowners share their expertise, memories and advice on collecting folk art. These afternoon events conclude with a reception for FOFA members to meet one another and share collection stories. $$

For folk art enthusiasts who want to know more, FOFA sponsors Conversations: Intimate Salons with Folk Art Makers, Collectors, Icons. These small, informal gatherings offer participants the opportunity to meet in the homes, studios and workshops of Santa Fe icons and experts who have contributed significantly to the vibrant folk art culture that permeates the City Different. $$

Many FOFA members have passions for travel and folk art, and what better way to enjoy both than an expert-curated and guided trip to folk art destinations around the country and Mexico. Each year FOFA coordinates travel excursions designed to expand members’ folk art knowledge and to personally meet regional artists. These group trips, offered at a reasonable cost, are led by experienced FOFA members and professional travel coordinators. $$

Folk art education and appreciation are key components of Museum of International Folk Art’s and FOFA’s mission for folk art lovers of all ages. FOFA regularly hosts interesting, inspiring and informative lectures all year round.  Experts address a broad range of topics such as what inspires their creativity and how to create, display, restore and catalog art. $$

FOFA hosts special fundraising activities to engage members and the community in the museum’s mission and support the museum’s education and exhibition programs. Events vary each year, often complementing museum exhibits. Events include parties such as the Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball and other celebrations related to MOIFA exhibitions and milestones and to honor folk art traditions from around the world, artist demonstrations and workshops and private museum tours. . $$
